There are a lot of reasons to visit Utah: amazing deserts and mountains, national parks, incredible snow, mountain biking, rock climbing….  It’s also one of the most conservative states in the nation, politically and morally.  The legislators here are “tough” on crime, and a run-in with one of our law enforcement officers can turn a good vacation bad really quick.

If you’re facing a criminal charge and you don’t live in the state, I can help you resolve your case as painlessly as possible.  It’s always the judge’s decision on whether or not to require your presence for a court hearing, but often an attorney is allowed to appear for a defendant who is out-of-state, and many judges will allow a plea-by-affidavit for lower-level offenses, in which case you won’t have to come back to Utah at all if you get an acceptable plea-bargain (or your case gets dismissed).

I also use an online case-management program which makes it easier to interact with me and follow your case from far away.  As a client, you can log-in from anywhere and see the pleadings I’ve filed in your case, or the response from the prosecutor, or the order from the judge, all on the same day I see them.  You can use the system to send me a secure message, safely upload an important document, or pay your invoice with a credit card.  Law practice has finally caught up with the internet, is what I’m saying.
